Hey there, fellow adventurers! Let me take you on a journey through Arizona, starting with the iconic Grand Canyon. As a solo female traveler, I was both excited and a bit nervous about exploring this vast natural wonder. But the moment I stood at the edge of the canyon, all my worries melted away. The sheer size and beauty of the Grand Canyon are beyond words. It’s like Mother Nature decided to show off her best work here.

I stayed at the charming El Tovar Hotel, right on the South Rim. Waking up to the sight of the canyon every morning was a dream come true. For meals, I couldn’t resist the local flavors at the Arizona Room. Their Navajo tacos are a must-try!

One of the highlights of my trip was hiking the Bright Angel Trail. The views were breathtaking, and I felt a sense of accomplishment with every step. For a different perspective, I took a helicopter tour with Maverick Helicopters. Seeing the canyon from above was an experience I’ll never forget.

Tombstone, known for its Wild West history, was like stepping into a time machine. The town’s historic buildings and reenactments of famous gunfights made it a fascinating destination. I stayed at the Tombstone Monument Ranch, which offered themed rooms and a true Old West experience.

Dining at the Crystal Palace Saloon was a treat. Their steak and ale pie is a favorite. Watching the reenactment of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral was a highlight. I also enjoyed visiting the Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park, which offers a deeper dive into the town’s storied past.

U.S. Route 66: A Nostalgic Journey

Driving along U.S. Route 66, also known as the “Main Street of America,” was a nostalgic journey through Arizona’s history. The quirky roadside attractions and vintage diners made it a memorable road trip. I stayed at the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, where you can sleep in a cozy, retro wigwam.

The Roadkill Cafe in Seligman offered a fun dining experience with a menu full of humorously named dishes. Try the “Rigor Mortis Tortoise” burger! Visiting the Petrified Forest National Park along the route was a unique experience. The park’s ancient, fossilized trees and colorful badlands are a sight to behold.

Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and architectural school, is a testament to his genius. The blend of natural materials and innovative design makes it a must-visit for architecture enthusiasts. I stayed at the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale, a mid-century modern gem that complements the visit to Taliesin West.

Dining at the ZuZu Restaurant at the hotel was a delight. Their Sunday brunch is particularly popular. The guided tour of Taliesin West was incredibly informative. I learned about Wright’s philosophy and saw firsthand how he integrated his buildings with the desert landscape.

Bedrock City: A Flintstones Adventure

Fred’s Diner within the park serves up simple, hearty meals. Their Bronto Burgers are a hit with visitors. Exploring the park’s Flintstones-themed attractions was a blast. The giant dinosaur slide and the replica of Fred Flintstone’s house were my favorites.

Lowell Observatory: Stargazing in Flagstaff

Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff is a haven for astronomy enthusiasts. The clear, dark skies of Arizona make it an ideal location for stargazing. I stayed at the Little America Hotel, which offers comfortable accommodations and beautiful forest views.

The hotel’s Silver Pine Restaurant serves delicious meals with a focus on local ingredients. Their elk burger is a must-try. The guided night tours at Lowell Observatory were fascinating. Arizona Snowbowl, located near Flagstaff, offers a surprising winter wonderland in the desert state. Skiing and snowboarding here was an unexpected delight. I stayed at the Ski Lift Lodge and Cabins, which offers cozy accommodations right at the base of the mountain.

The Agassiz Lodge at the resort serves up hearty meals perfect for refueling after a day on the slopes. Their chili is particularly warming. Skiing the slopes of Snowbowl was exhilarating. The views from the top of the mountain are stunning, and the fresh powder made for perfect conditions.

Hoover Dam: An Engineering Marvel

Hoover Dam, straddling the border between Arizona and Nevada, is an engineering marvel. The sheer scale of the dam and its historical significance make it a must-visit. I stayed at the Hoover Dam Lodge, which offers comfortable accommodations and easy access to the dam.

The lodge’s Bighorn Cafe serves up delicious meals with a view of the surrounding desert. Their breakfast burritos are a great way to start the day.
